The artist
Nat Witschonke resides and maintains his studio in rural New Hampshire, and has been involved in creating his novel body sculptures for over five years. In his words: “The human form is malleable and pliable, so soft and fluid. I love to capture those qualities in something as durable and permanent as artificial stone, so that they can be viewed and appreciated over the years. When someone walks around one of my sculptures and then feels compelled to touch and even caress it, I feel that I’ve achieved my goal. People find it hard to believe that my medium can be so soft and touchable.” “I became enthralled with the idea of creating replicas of people which could be used in structural contexts. The Ancient Greeks decorated their temples with columns sculpted in the form of beautiful women, but this medium is not accessible for most today. I started to experiment with forms, materials, and techniques, creating many whimsical pieces along the way. Through a long process of evolution, I have developed a technique which enables me to safely and realistically capture the living human body, and freeze it in time in the form of an enduring sculpture.” This technique allows the Artist to offer beautiful sculptures of professional models for sale. However, more importantly, a Patron can interact directly with the Artist, and arrange the creation of a sculpture capturing the Patron's own form, or that of a loved-one.
