The process
As a first step, the patron and the artist will discuss the desired subject, the pose, materials, finish, and other elements of the composition, as well as delivery and payment details. Upon agreement, a modeling session at the artist’s studio will be scheduled at a mutually convenient date. The modeling session will typically take 3-5 hours, depending on the complexity of the composition. Most models thoroughly enjoy the experience, and liken it to a spa mud bath. During the session a reinforced plaster mould of the subject is created and carefully removed. From this point, the subject is not involved further. The next steps are the reinforcing, pouring, and curing of the sculpture. Once it is ready, the sculpture is carefully removed from the mould, meticulously hand-finished, and coated. Typically, the finished sculpture is ready to be delivered 3-4 weeks after the modeling session. |
